TMJ/Bruxism Therapy

TMJ or TMJ Syndrome refers the temporomandibular joint that connects the lower jaw to the skull (in front of the ear), and the problems associated with this area. Symptoms can include ear aches and headaches; head and neck pain; cracking, popping, and clicking sounds; trouble eating; locked jaw (open or closed); or ringing in the ear. Depending on the severity of symptoms, procedures to alleviate TMJ problems can include acupuncture, occlusal adjustments, tooth realignments, tooth replacement, stress reduction, splints, guards, or surgery. Since grinding and clenching teeth (bruxism) is a common cause of TMJ disorders, we recommend a conservative solution: a removable, custom-made mouth guard that balances the bite and protects your teeth from excessive wear or fracture. Made of soft rubber or hard acrylic, a bruxism appliance relieves muscle tension, which causes many issues associated with TMJ. The custom fit guard provides the greatest amount of comfort, fit, and protection for one of the most used joints in your body.
